remeron question

Posted by den2 on April 3, 2003, at 8:31:13

I cannot tolerate ssris or even serzone. Remeron and wellbutrin are the only 2 antidepressants I will take. I take 15 mgs of remeron. I love remeron mainly because it restores my libido which makes me very happy. My question is how do i get rid of the sedation(anti histamine effect?) I tried 45 mgs but it made me sick. I can't even go up to 30 mgs.

Can you take it at bedtime? » den2

I take Serzone for insomnia. I was supposed to take it in the morning, but I was too drowsy. So, at my suggestion, the doc moved it to bedtime. I mean, duh.

If you don't take it at bedtime, you probably should. You'll still have the AD effects all day, but the drowsiness is likely to wear off by mid-morning.

Could you gradually increase to 45 mgs? I took 30 mgs. for a year and a half. Pdoc than bumped it up to 45 mgs. to counteract the weight gain. It took a few weeks to get used to the new dose, but the sedation really is gone at the higher dose. Unfortunately I had to go back to 30 mgs. (fluid retention problems). I do notice a HUGE difference in sedation now that I am at the lower dose. Someone else mentioned here having less sedation at 7.5 mgs. Maybe that would work?

For me, nothing I did, not even going up to 60 mg, helped the sedation. At all doses from 7.5 - 60 mg the sedation was so extreme that I was completely dysfunctional. :(
