I don't mean to be offensive, but maybe there is something else going on in your life that is causing your problems?

I often wonder just how sick (depressed, etc) people are when the side-effects cause them to stop or discontinue a working medication.

I went through almost every med, and only stopped or switched if the med wasn't effective, or the apathy (caused by SSRIs) became more of a distructive and disruptive force in my life than the depression itself.

The partially effective meds I quit because of side-effects were Wellbutrin SR, because of an allergic reaction, Celexa, because of an extreme weight gain of 20 lbs in a month and elivated bilirubin, and topamax (400mgs) because of impotence and extreme dysphasia/dysnomia. All of which were dicontinued by doctors orders. For what it's worth, the SSRIs (and every combo) helped very little (for me at least)

At my most depressed, I couldn't care less about weight gain, or anorgasmia...yeah they are annoying, but clinical depression, which often leads to suicide, is far more of an annoyance. Also, for what it's worth, I'm a 25 year old guy, and started meds at 15/16, so I CAN relate.

When I was depresssed, I would have sold my soul to the devil to feel "normal" for just one day.

I would be VERY surprised if that new combo of meds you listed didn't cause a myriad of side-effects, possibly more dangerous than any side-effect from a MAOI. The possible metabolic interactions are numerous, not to mention the many other problems associated with overmedicating.

I wish you good luck...and hope you have a good insurance co. I hope you don't find this post offensive or flippant.

Dude, you made the same mistake before- I remember you saying that it was stupid to go off Nardil. You know Nardil is insane, so why go off it? I made the same mistake once. Nardil makes you feel so good you believe you can't fail. I hope the new drug works out, but I think Nardil has no competition.

I remember when you said you made the mistake also....... So did I along with Ace. The sexual side effects can be a pain, but it's hard to even approach a girl with the anxiety Nardil kills.

I didn't think I could lose weight on Nardil but I have been able to lose 5 pounds and keep it off for the last 3 months...

Anyway good luck on whatever you do

Ross,
For the anorgasmia, you might have tried these but maybe not....

1. Bethanachol (50mg before sexual activity or 100mg day)

2. Periactin 4mg (be careful- can cause insomnia OCD depression)

3. Viagra

There is plenty more man. I agree- the anorgasmia is a pain, but Nardil makes me feel so good! I might start trying some new stuff for it- there is plenty I just forgot.

If you lower your Nardil to 60mg?
What about Parnate?- no sexual s/effects usually.

I remember Nardil got you out of hospital, I don't want to see you relapse.

Take Care Ross, and if you do stop I hope the new drug works out.

Ace.

I don't pretend to know more than anyone, I'm sorry if the tone of my post lead you to believe that.

It's sad that you have been hospitalized 8 times; I'm not going to start a "hospital stay", "who is the sickest" competition with you, or anyone for that matter. I was just speaking my mind (or typing as the case my be)

I thought the point of this forum was to exchange ideas/thoughts gained through PERSONAL experience. I thought I was doing that.

Having "every" medical web-site is of no importance to me, as is a psychiatrists's explaination of side-effects (since 99% of the time, they have never taken the medications the prescribe) I have been on 4 out of the 7 you plan to be on.

I hope Pregabalin is a blockbuster for you, and I hope you get better (as I have) I am confused that you have singled out pregabalin as a drug that I am somehow "against" (for lack of a better word)...My point was that, I can assure you that any combination of 7 medications is going to cause more side-effects (including the sexual side-effects you experienced with other meds) than the medication you quit...And you did quit an effective medication because of side-effects (sexual)

So, maybe I do know at least one thing more than you, I know what it's like to no longer struggle with depression and social anxiety, and be medication free.

Again, I'm sorry if anything I have expressed to you is offensive.

also...responding to your post about topamax, yes, for me it caused impotence, and dysnomia so severe I was almost a mute, and lowering the dosage from 400 mgs back to 200mgs relieved these symptoms, but did not prevent me from having seizures.

good luck
djmmm
