Lexapro and sexual side effects

Posted by methinks on November 12, 2003, at 9:15:12

I have tried several SSRIs including Prozac, Zoloft and Effexor and all have resulted in ejaculatory delay or outright impotence. My pdoc now wants me to try Lexapro 10 mg once a day, as he says sexual side effects are much reduced with this medication at this dose. Can anyone confirm my Doctor's statement about this? Has anyone who has experienced negative sexual side effects from SSRIs returned to a normal sex life while taking Lexapro? Thanks, J B

JB,

actually, I have been on Lexapro now for two months, and I have the ejac delay to the point where it never seems to happen, unless Im involved for at least 40 minutes. Which isnt neccesarily a bad thing, but it has created a little worry from the wife. Overall its a good medicine, but personally I have the delay you speak of. I can get it up, I just cant get it off!

Hi JB: I was on Lexapro for one week when my sex drive disappeared completely [I've been on 10mg. of Lexapro for 6 weeks now]. I didn't even think about sex.

My Dr. added Wellbutrin, which I've been on for a week. I notice that I'm beginning to think about sex more. Hopefully in another few weeks my libido will return from its Leave of Absence. :-)

Have you noticed that you have a tremor with the Wellbutrin?

Nope. No tremor. Only a the continual whistling in my ears. :-( Also, I still have no cravings for sugar, my appetite is still well under control and my sex drive is creeping back. :-)
