My son has been taking 75 mg Zoloft for anxiety during the day. He is also on 20 mg Zyprexa at night
for Schiz. It has been working perfectly until 2 weeks ago when we got 50 mg Zoloft tabs gave him 1 plus half of another = 75 Mg. Prior to that we were cutting down 100 mg tabs to 75 mg.
Suddenly, the first day on 50 mg + 25 mg. He turned into a zombie. Ever since we got this batch the results have been odd. He has had it the past 2 days and after he was asked everyday questions to which an answer would be obvious he answers "I don't Know". Last week he sat in church, slumped over a bit an not moving for 1 hour (not asleep). It is the same amount as before 75 mg. What gives?
Is there anything better for anxiety/agitation than Zoloft? Please Help!

I'm guessing from your message that you think you might've gotten a "bad refill"? Pills that weren't quite right? I'd be curious as to whether that's possible! It could be.
Cause as you say, your math is correct. 1 1/2 50s should've been the same as 3/4 of 100.
I guess either there was something wrong with one of the refills or else the timing was a coincidence.
Have you talked to your doctor? There are plenty of anti-anxiety medications to try - zoloft is definitely not the only one! Buspar is one. And there are lots of others.
That zombie-like state you describe - could it be that the medicine for his schizofrenia is failing and it's not the zoloft at all?
I'm just brainstorming with you! The only thing I know for sure is that there are PLENTY of anti-anxiety meds to try. Give your doctor a call and tell him what's happened.
Is there anyone else out there who's ever suspected you got a "bad refill" on one of your meds?

I suspected there might have been something about the refill wasn't right, so I called Walgreens to check it out. The pharmacist said she knew of no problem with their Zoloft and she agreed there should be no difference between 1 and 1/2 50 mgs and 3/4 of a 100 mg. I called P Dr. yesterday but he has not returned my call as yet. My son was still a bit spacy last night.
Thanks for your input I will look into Buspar. Zoloft was working, I still don't understand how it suddenly can have a different effect almost like it is a different medication. I am Worried!
