Lexapro and acne

Posted by Dr. Jill on December 8, 2003, at 6:55:54

Good morning everyone! As of today, I have been on Lexapro 5 weeks and I am feeling much better! Thanks to everyone who was so supportive during those first few weeks of "hell". All of my side effects are gone, with one exception. I have been breaking out with small little blister-like pimples on my chin! I am a 35 y/o female and throughout my life I have never had a problem with acne. Every so often, I would get a nasty pimple around that time of the month, but nothing serious. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Thanks in advance for your reply. Jill

I take Lexapro. I have not had that problem myself, nor have I heard of it.

I have always had an acne problem and have not noticed any difference since starting Lexapro a few months ago. I know Lexapro causes sun sensitivity, dont know have that has anything to do with it.

Hi,

>>I have been breaking out with small little blister-like pimples on my chin! I am a 35 y/o female and throughout my life I have never had a problem with acne.
<<I have no Lexapro experience, but boy do I have acne experience! It's interesting that the acne is localized on your chin. Are you doing anything new like resting your chin on your hands? Using a new phone at work? Not taking makeup off at night? Do you live somewhere the climate has recently changed? I know sometimes when it gets colder here suddenly, I get a bit of a breakout.

You could try using Cetaphil cleanser twice a day. It's very gentle yet cleans well. And try not to touch your face. Wash off the phones you use, and if you use makeup, throw out what you've got and get new stuff. The old stuff could be contaminated with bacteria.

Good luck!

Susan

Hi,

I'm pretty sure I've heard that chin zits are due to hormonal reasons. You can see if Lexapro does anything to change hormone levels- that could be one thing.

good luck
Sara
