urgent see doc in a few hours!

Posted by rainee on March 1, 2004, at 12:02:21

Abilify, klonopin I take.. a little racy, depressed.. I think I need a stabilizer too.
lamicatal or topomax? I need to lose weight 100 pounds so the topomax sounds apealing. to see if it helps even a little.
any suggestions!

Thanks.
Rainee

Rainee:

The Topamax did nothing for helping me lose weight, but then I was only trying to correct the 12 pounds I got from Remeron, not 100...

From the posts I've read, most people don't start to lose weight with Topamax until the doses get well over 100mg per day. There are cognitive as well as other side effects also.

Ask your pDoc about Seroquel. It works great for mood and is better than Topamax for sleep. I've noticed no word-fumbling, etc. with Seroquel like with Topamax.

I'm sorry, I thought I was clear...

Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic that's primary purpose is for mood stabilization. It's perfect for bipolars. The sleep part is a side effect (sedation).

Rainee:

I haven't had problems with weight gain on Seroquel (100mg), but I DID have it on Remeron. I'm slowly taking off what I gained with it. I also have noted that Effexor seems to make loss harder, but not impossible...

Take care and good luck on the meds...

I'm confused. Do you mean it's perfect for manic bipolars? Or.....I've more frequently had a problem (until recently) with being too sedated (or prone more to depression), and now my doctor has suggested res...respiridol? I don't know, it's one of the atypical antipsychotics, but I thought he meant just to get me out of this manic thing and get restabilized. Sounds like you're saying seroquel is a long term solution? I'm afraid of being totally out of it.

It's a good solution for bipolars. I'm bipolar, possibly BPII, but my pDoc thinks more likely atypical BP. Seroquel does NOT make me spacey. That's the reason why I take it at night. The sedation effect works great for sleep.

Talk to your pDoc about it and weight the options...

Good luck,

Tony
