Hi Dr B.

I have only been on 37.5 mg of Effexor XR for one week. The main problem I've had is the abdominal bloating and gassy stomach.

I'm on 375 Effexor XR and 300mg Seroquel at night (for insomnia). I think the Seroquel is the reason I am stillunable to lose weight - even though I'm on a stimulant as well.

Have you guys tried a sedating TCA's or Remeron with Effexor for sleep? AP's for sleep seems a little excessive to me.

Cheers,
Panda.

Panda - I agree - to use an AP for insomnia IS excessive. Plus it has caused me to gain almost 80 pounds. I have terrible insomnia. I wouldn't be against using Remeron for sleep - but I just don't want any weight gain. Plus, The hangover from Seroquel and Trazodone (ugh - the WORST med - makes me feel like my head is being forced underwater) is causing major problems with me getting to work. Perhaps Remeron isn't so bad????

Anything that causes sedation via H1 blockade is also supposed to be capable of causing weight gain(ie: most TCA AD's, most AP's & Remeron), but you never know unless you try as your YMMW :) There is a poster here who is on Effexor & was gaining weight on Remeron, so he switched to Seroquel & lost it which proves YMMW. I'd certainly try Remeron as it is easy to give up.

Panda.

300 mg of seroquel just for insomnia!!!!!

that is a HUGE dose just for insomnia ... they usually give like 25, 50 and 100 at most. I mean its an antipsychotic and you're taking the dose that they give to psychotic people ...

I think some doctors give antipsychotics way to easily ... I mean sometimes they do augment the effects on an AD but they can be sooo dangerous. Seroquel 50 mg made me like a zombie and when they tried 5mg Syprexa and that gave me seizures non-stop. You have to be super carefull with those meds.

Tell me about it! At one time they had me near 500mg for sleep. I have been chronically late to work and have gotten "in trouble" because of it. I tell this to my doc and she doesn't know what else to try. Ambien used to work wonderfully for me. I HATE trazadone and for some reason she won't putme on a small dose of a TCA or Remeron ("because of the weight gain)?? I think 300mg of Seroquel is causing my weight gain - and 15mg or less of Remeron will most likely NOT cause weight gain.

UGH! Doctors! Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't!!
