Remeron concerns....

Posted by ace on May 13, 2004, at 23:30:47

Since upping my dose to 30mg, i have noted some extra OCD and also being not as happy. also thise wierd, unhinged, unsettled feeling....coulkd it be the remeron or just a coincidence??

Should I stick it out at 30mg and wait for these effects to fade, and the therapeutic effect to kick in...

or am i better off going back down to 15mg (where i didnt have these probs...)?

Thanks!

Hi Ace,

It took me a solid month to get use to taking 30mg as it would give me a feeling of irritability & crankiness. I would try 22.5mg for a month. I've been on this stuff for about 6 months now & I can still notice the difference between 15,22.5 & 30mg. 15mg for me is pure H1 sedation, 22.5 brings in 5-HT2A makes me sleep deeper, 30mg brings in Alpha 2 NE irritation.

Cheers,
Panda.

Hey Sad Panda, I have a question for you.

I've been at 15mg for five weeks now and am doing well except for the Remeron belly and the dry mouth. It took four weeks to get rid of the dizzyness and other side effects.

Here is my question. If I do decide to bump up to 22.5 or 30 should I expect to "lose" that first weekend to severe sedation like I did when I started? Now that I'm feeling Sooooooooo much better I've made plans for the last couple of weekends and a few into the future so it is hard to find a time to bump up! Also will I have to go through all the dizzyness etc for another couple of weeks.

Do you have the "remeron belly"? Afraid if I go up it will get worse!

Good to know the crankiness at 30mg passed for you. I had irritability for two to three weeks on just 15mg!!!

Thanks!

Hi Ravenstorm,

When I went to 30mg from 15mg, it didn't give me stronger sedation, but it did make me sleep for an extra hour. I did not get the start up side effects a second time, but instead, I was cranky for about a month. I also have fluid retention of my feet & this has never gone away. My dry mouth faded away eventually, it was never bad, but it was very icky waking up with a dry as dust tongue & mouth. I never got a belly from it, but then again I already have one to start with. If it is fluid retention, you will just have to hope it goes away. I find that if I do enough walking, my feet subside, but I rarely do enough walking. Anything that uses the big leg muscles is generally good because these muscles squeeze on your leg veins & this helps propel blood & lymph back up towards your heart.

If you are happy right now, I would stay with 15mg. If you do decide to go up, I would spend a month at 22.5mg & see if you like it better there. I prefer 22.5mg, but I have to take 30mg because it helps me take more Effexor.

Cheers,
Panda.
