A positive experience with Effexor...

Posted by Colleen D. on June 3, 2004, at 15:16:54

Hi! I'm new here and was recently prescribed Effexor XR for PPD, GAD and OCD. I almost didn't get the prescription filled because of all the negative things I'd read on this site about side effect and withdrawal, but decided to go ahead because I'd never know if it might be the best thing for me.

I'm now on day 17. I finished the "start-up pack" and am now taking 150mg. I feel better than I have felt in years! And as far as side effects go, the ONLY one I have is the sweating. Looking back over my past, I've come to believe that I began suffering from depression, GAD and OCD in the early high school years and perhaps I should have tried an AD long before now. Having babies really magnified may problem and made me seek treatment. I'm 42. A remarkable thing is that some of the problems I had before taking the drugs which are also listed as common side effects (constipation, vivid dreams, muscle twitching) have all stopped! Maybe I HAVE had a chemical imbalance all these years and the Effexor is now doing its job to correct it. I still have some fears about withdrawal, but I'm trying not to think about that point in the future and enjoying how I feel now.

Have any of you who are being treated for depression had a relative with Parkinson's Disease? My grandmother had early onset Parkinson's and I'm wondering if there might be some connection to long-term depression and Parkison's. In other words, could her "brain problem" have any connection to what I've gone through for years?

Looking forward to "chatting" with you all...

Colleen
