It doesn't have any anti-depressant properties. Lamictal, lithium and depakote are the known anti-manic agents that also act as an anti-depressant. Can you take an anti-depressant, or do they make you manic?

I am bipolar II, or so I have been diagnosed, and I take Topomax 225mg, Zoloft 100mg , and Adderall XR 20mg per day. I am doing well, and not depressed at all, as I was before. Life is much better, and I am stunned at the turn-around these medications have given me. It doesn't work for everyone. Everyone thinks the topomax is an automatic weight-loss pill, but it's not. It didn't need to lose any weight, so therefor; I didn't. My daughter also takes it, and she needs to lose a few pounds, but she didn't lose any either. She also didn't gain any like people do on other mood stabilizers, so that's a positive for the topomax. (Especially if it works). It has helped level out her moods, but the doctore has added Trileptal a few days ago, and we are hoping to see more improvement as the days go. -L

Sorry to disagree Maxime, but I don't believe depakote has ANY anti-depressant properties. At best it keeps you flat. I took it for 10 years and the higher the dose the worse I felt. I am not bipolar, but was using it for migraine headaches.

So in your case Stresser, it's probably the Zoloft that is helping the depression.

It's always to good to hear another side. :-) I know that for a few people it helped them. Maybe it was something else?

It might not be terribly common, but Depakote can exert antidepressant effects. I'm not sure what cluster of symptoms is most likely to respond to it, though. It did tickle my brain there for a little while. I am bipolar
