I saw a new doctor yesterday
Things didn't go according to Mar Plan :(
I wanted him to prescribe Nardil, but for some bizare reason he prefered Marplan/Isocarboxid
I'm a bit discouraged because I've never heard of Marplan working for SA.

I don't think we have it in the U.S. Is it a normal maoi like nardil or parnate? Or is it a reversible type maoi?

Marplan is ireversible like Nardil and Parnate
Its a Hydrazine derivative like Nardil, so theoreticly its similarIts the least well known of the MAOIs, perhapse for a good reason!
I'm not sure whether to carry on with a trial up to a reasonable dosage, or just find another doctor and try again to get Nardil again *sigh*

Just because its a Hydrazine derivative doesn't nessecerily mean its the same as Nardil (sadly)I'm going to push the dose as high as possible though, before I give up

Nardil doesn't always work either.........

Yes, I think I once heard of someone taking 170mg/day! I wouldn't give up on isocarboxazid until you tried at least 80mg or so - if you can tolerate it. You can increase the dose as high as you want if you can tolerate it! - Provided that your doctor will prescribe it. I hope he isn't one of those docs who's gonna keep you on a homeopathic dose that's not helping.

It worked for me and worked better than many othe meds. I had to stop it because the drug was discontinued for lack of profitability by the compnay that was manufacturing it then. From this forum I became aware that it was available again. that was back in the early 90's and I became very depressed after stopping it. I still think it was the best drug for my depression which included social anxiety. I think I only took 30 mg. so even at low doses it can work so don't focus on pushing the dose to a high level unless you need to.

Well said! ......but you do need a pdoc who's willing to use a high dose if it *is* necessary.

Hey, I wouldn't just assume it's no good for SA. Scott was saying that it has a better side effect profile than Nardil according to someone or other. And any help is better than none. What's the thing that's said of Nardil? 90% will benefit from it and 75% will give it up because of the side effects. Or something like that.

Hello.
I'm coming off Nardil to try Marplan instead. Nardil did work but I've had 'complicated complications' with it! Anyway, one reason is I had a lack of energy/cravings for stimulants. Marplan is said to be somewhat 'activating', whilst having the same/similar basic actions as Nardil. Well that's what I'm hoping - a good anti- social phobia effect with a full throttled KICK with it! (A bit more energy would help at least).
