Abilify questions...

Posted by TrishP on November 9, 2006, at 13:32:09

Ok - since I am a slowwwwww metabolizer, my doc has started me on 2mg of Abilify for a week then move up to 5mg.

So far, this is my second day of 2mg and I feel nausous, have a headache sometimes and also feel hot someones.

Will these side effects go away in time?

I hope Scott sees this as I think he took it. But from what I know it is activating. Love Phillipa

Any Abilify experiences would be appreciated. My pdoc just prescribed this for me today. Not sure whether to take AM or PM. Any experiences from users or ex users would be great....

I take it at night. I'm starting off on 2mg then moving up to 5mg next week. Within an hour of taking it I'm tired (and a little nausous!).

The only thing I wonder about is the heat! I get really hot sometimes and sweat.

Any thoughts?

It is definately activating. My doc gave me some Xanax to take with it because of that.

Hi Phillipa,

What does it mean when you say a drug is 'activating'?

Are there also non-activating drugs?

You will have to wait and see about whether they go away. There is certainly a good chance they will. The main s/e I had was wicked insomnia, which resolved after a couple of months. I also found it more activating at first.

I'm wondering why your doctor wants you to go to 5 mg after only a week. If you are a slow metabolizer and tend to need low doses, you may do fine at 2 or 2.5 mg. I take 2.5 mg and from what I've seen on this board, I'm not the only one. Some people only need 2.5 mg every other day. You might want to give it 1.5 or 2 weeks at the low dose to see if that's enough. Just a thought.

Good luck with it. I find it very helpful and pretty minimal for side effects.

Hey Ronaldo. Activating means may make you anxious or have loads of energy of the anxiety type. The other end is the benzos and antipsychitics you know the zyprexa and seroquel. Abilify is another of them. I think when you get used to it the activating part goes away not sure though. Love Phillipa Did you google it on the Dr. Bob side at the bottom of the thread? That will pull up previous threads on this meds from users of it. Hope that helps a tiny bit. Then there is always plain google.

Hi again, Trish.

Yeah, I would feel pretty confident that the nausea and hot feeling (both familiar to me from my Abilify trial) will go away pretty soon. I agree with the others to increase slowly. Maybe wait until the nausea & headache have gone before upping to 5 mg?

And remember you can go up to 5 mg just every other day at first. (Like: 2, 2, 2, 2, then 5, 2, 5, 2, etc.) Good luck.
