Seroquel making things worse?

Posted by Muffled on November 17, 2007, at 0:47:44

I just started seroquel. I am taking 12.5 for a 6 days now, it makes me so incapaitated w/in an hour of taking it. I don't want to take a higher dose as I am responsible for kids and need to be able to function.
I have been working thru some difficult stuff in therapy and have alot of headnoise, some anxiety, emotional lability etc. I have been feeling increasingly unstable, and I dunno if its the seroquel, or just my reactions to what we are going thru in therapy.
I am getting frightened.
I do have xanax as well to take as needed.
How do I know if seroquel is helping or making worse????
Any replies appreciated.

Muffled,
I take seroquel but I take it at night for sleep. I take ativan during the day if I need it for anxiety. When are you taking the Seroquel? Maybe you need to adjust your medication schedule. Hope this helps. HUGS

I take it at night, well, late afternoon. Bout 5 or so. By 6 I am crashing to sleep. Its so hard to stay awake to put kids to bed.
I'm thinking of adding zoloft as well.
I guess i should check in with my GP. It just takes so long to get an appt.
Thanks for replies guys.

Hello:

I tried seroquel last spring and it was a disaster for me. 12.5 and I was barely able to function. I would wake up every hour at night and felt very out of it. The first dose was great as it felt like my brain was taking a bath but after that things went downhill. at 25 mg I became so restless and couldn't sit still and later found out this is called akathisia. I stopped it and felt much better. It has taken me months to recover as it was a shock to have felt so bad from a med. I would go with something else if I was you. That is just my opinion though.

I take 25 mg at nite for help with sleep..I take it about 9 at nite and enjoy about a 1/2 hour or hour of a nice relaxed feeling before I stagger off to bed! I take a small amount of clonazapam during the day if I'm going through a rough patch..that seems to help..hope you feel better soon..

Muffled,
Could you try calling your GP and asking if you coud take it as soon as you get the kids to bed instead of waiting to get an appointment? It would certainly be much safer for you and the kids. I don't see why he/she should have any objection to changing the dosage by a few hours. I would emphasize that you need something done NOW, not later. My GP always gets back to me within 24 hrs after I leave a voice mail. I hope yours will do the same. The most important thing is the welfare of you and you kids!!! Could you try cutting the pill in half? You could call an ER or a pharmacy and ask them what to do until you can call your GP on Monday. They may suggest you call your GP right now. Well, I don't know how much help I've been but I hope you get things straightened out soon and feel better. Please keep me posted. Hugs!

Thanks for input guys.
I only have 4 seroquel left, enuf for a week as I take only 1/2.
The reason I take it as early as I do is so that I am not dopey in the morning. Its more important for me to be alert in the morning so I can get kids off to school etc!
I also have zoloft floating about in my med chest too. I find it challenging to got onto it, but it has helped in the past.
I dunno, my emotions are all over. The depression part passes. I was hoping seroquel would help stabilze my emotions some.
I have done OK w/seroquel in the past.
I think I will hang on with it for now.
I will phone GP on Mon and see if she can squeeze me in next week. I expect she will. I need more xanax too.
Thanks for support.
Its nice to not be alone in this.

Seroquel is usally taken at night. 12.5mg is a placebo as far as any neurotransmitter effects except a strong antihistamine which you are sensitive to. It lessens over time but it still is rather powerful in that regard.

Unless you are taking other meds which might cause a different reaction, Seroquel alone taken before bed should give you some of the best sleep of your life. It is true you will be groggy in the morning, but that can usually be solved with some caffeine. Great, great, great med.

I took the 25, but now I sleepy this a.m.

hi muff,
I took 25 for sleep for about 3 months. it knocked me out cold within 45 minutes. babblechatters will remember a phase when llurpsie was babbling nonsense that looked like this

i seroquelel nowt qto bed .byt byee

For the symptoms you report, (I had similar ones) I went up to 200mg. yes, i was medicine head for a week. provigil (a non amphetamine stimulant) helped a LOT) then the sedative effect wore off by itself.

as mentioned above, the antihistamine effect is great too. kittieachoooo!

best wishes

Maybe you could skip a dose and see if it gets worse or better?

I lasted 10 days on it. I had to stop, it was just too much for me, it sent me over the edge. But it works wonders for my sister and she is on 200mg, I was only on 12.5 at first like you then up to 50mg at night and 12.5 in the morning.

input MUCH appreciated

My kids been sick last night so didn't take seroquel, and not tonite either. Ugh, now I get allergies! But not so sleepy. I cannot even begin to imagine taking it in the daytime!
Well, I only got 3 left anyways and still haven't phoned dr.....
I been staying away from hard thots the last while anyways.
With some degree of success.
I think I'll just have to see how it goes....and mebbe try something diff if I not doing so good.
Thanks for input.
Its HUGE to me. My GP proly only knows what the drug salesman has told her. What you guys tell me is more the reality.
Thx again.

You certainly won't get that many allergies with Seroquel considering its Hx blockades. My nose is less plugged with it

Don't drop it like a stone unless you're in the 0-50mg (very low psychotropic action) range -- you can get reverse anxiety withdrawal.

thx for headsup. I never got to very high dose.... (nm) » yxibow
