A Question For The Parnate Queen

Posted by bulldog2 on August 24, 2009, at 15:05:24

I know that you were originally on parnate and amitriptyline. Some will not use that combo for fear of serotonin syndrome.

Obviously your p-doc gave you the go ahead on this combo. Did your p-doc only allow usage of this combo when the amitriptyline was low dose? Or did your p-doc allow this combo with moderate or high dose amitriptyline?

Thanks From

Hi Bulldog:
I don't know that for sure. He started me on 25mg amytrip, then 50mg Amytrip. I was SOOOOOOO tired, thought the Parnate would make me less tired. No, it was worse. So I went down to 25mg amytrip., then 12 1/2mg amytrip. He wasn't too happy about my going so low but was ok with it. So, I think he would say moderate. I see him in a week so I could ask him if you want me to.
I was still so fatigued on 12 1/2mg amytrip. that per Scott's suggestion I went from Amytript. to Nortriptyline. It was a HUGE difference. I felt so much better even the FIRST DAY!! So, I'm kind of feeling my own way on the Nortript. I'm up to 25mg at night. My guess is that he would like me on more, but I'm already starting to have daily fatigue, even with the Provigil, and I've moved up to 60mg Parnate. So, I'm kind of bummed out. I don't know if the Parnate is pooping out or if it's because I've been involved in a very stressful custody battle (grandson). So, I'm keeping kind of quiet until I can sort it out.
Fatigue has always been my very very worst problem.

I have to make this work. It was Parnate or ECT.

But, more importantly, I surely dont want to lose my "Parnate Queen" title!!!

Best to you Bulldog,

Gayle

In reading this over, I think I'll ask Scott for any suggestions he might have.

It has been my experience that, when mixing nortriptyline with other antidepressants, full therapeutic dosages are necessary to produce the maximum antidepressant response. That usually ends up being 75mg, although 150mg is often necessary for fast metabolizers.

Thanks Scott:

The trial is over now and had an extremely good outcome. Phew!! So now I have to try to unwind and relax.

I see my pdoc Monday and I'm going to ask him about the Nortrip. He'll probably say more is better and why don't I try it ...get my blood tested etc. I'll try more, but if it makes me tired I probably wont go up any more than 25mg, unless pdoc twists my arm.

Thanks for you support and suggestions, Scott!

Gayle

Congrats that you won the battle!
You could try desipramine with the parnate. It's a tca but less sedating than the nortriptyline.
How about wellbutrin with the parnate. Think I read somewhere that someone was on the combo.
Another person here was on ritalin plus parnate.
So there's other avenues to investigate.
