Geodon, what to expect?

Posted by Maximus on November 27, 2009, at 10:49:32

Hi there babblers,

My psychiatrist changed my Zyprexa for Geodon (for a lipidic reason...). I began this drug wednesday at 40 mg a day. Our goal is 80 - 120 mg a day. The first two days have been pure hell. Akathisia and anxiety were at the rendez-vous. God, i tought i was losing my mind.

I called her and she told me that it is usually seen at low dose and i don't have to worry because Geodon is calming at higher dose?

You folks, do you want to enlight me please on Geodon?

Hi,

It's *definitely* calming at higher doses. With Geodon the lower you go, the more 'activating' it gets. 40mg almost made me high- I couldn't sit still. Increasing the dose totally changes that. At the dose you are aiming at its very 'soothing' without turning you into a zombie.

I wish you luck with it.
Its a great drug- I was on it for 2 years.

Hi there.

I was on Geodon and your doctor is right. It is more calming at the higher dosages. I was on 120 mg a day. I didn't have any problem with the lower dosage, it just wasn't enough to help with my mood swings.

Try to stick with it and see how it goes.

Take care.

I tried to do exactly what you are doing, and it did not work. I went as high as 60mg x 5/day. It made my vision very blurry. And all of a sudden I started self medication first with alcohol and then pot. I was still a mess. And the geodon gave me diabetes, unlike the zyprexa. I was acting very wierd and my work relations started going down hill. Also freinds were concerned about me and saying I was going through a fase. If I were you I would stay with the zyprexa and take something to counter the side-effects. Or take perphenazine. Its the next best thing to zyprexa. But does not have the eating, diabetes, etc, like zyprexa. Currently I take both. Zyprexa and perphenazine. I think the perphenazine is helping to control the eating with zyprexa. You can also take metformin for diabetes if its a problem or a statin for cholesterol and bupropion sr for energy and eating. I also tried abilify, which was worse than geodon. I'm still recovering from the abilify for the last 3 years!

At 40 mg I felt like killing the neighbors.

At 60 mg I felt like I was tweaking.

At 80 mg I started to cool off.

At 120 mg the really strange thoughts abaited and I stopped hearing voices.

At 160 mg I was peachy keen.

Its a great drug when you find the right dose. Its antidepressant qualities are strong.

Hi,

First of all, many thanks for your precious advices.

I'm back to Zyprexa. I'm unable to tolerate Geodon, even at 120 mg a day. Geodon made me extremely anxious. Whoah! I haven't had this sort of agitation before.

Perhaps i could revisit Seroquel XR again for my bipolar condition. But Zyprexa is fast and really good for anxiety. Moreover i don't get this hungover feeling the next morning with Zyprexa.

Ciao for now.
