Desperate...meds...

Posted by SheilaC on December 6, 2009, at 18:03:24

I am feeling so desperate now. I have tried so many meds over the years and am really fed up.

I have avoided Parnate because I was afraid something awful would happen if I ate chocolate or cheese or wine or something.

I am a very slow metabolizer and feel the side effects of many drugs. I usually can take a very low dose of something and do pretty well.

Could I get away with 5-10mg of Parnate and not worry about what I eat?

Here's a basic rundown of me:

No motivation, irritable, anxious, etc.

You name the drug and I have probably tried it, except for the MAOIs.

Sheila, don't give up! Although you feel as though you have no options available, there is something that will help. Perhaps a combination of 2 or 3 drugs may be the answer. If you feel you have tried them all, mixing and matching might be the way to go. Hang in there!!

To me it takes a lot of guts to constantly be let down by meds. It mentally hurts. Phillipa

You could try a low dose of Parnate. But you would still have to stick to the diet restrictions.

Sheila,

The diet restrictions are really scary at first, but once you get used to them they really are easy and I rarely even think about them any more!

Good luck!!

Have you tried SSRI's at LOW does, like 1/2 the recommened starting dose or less? I am a slow metabolizer P456 2D6, and I have thrived on 5mg of Celexa in the past.
Something to consider - if your sensitive to meds MAOI's may not be the route you want to start. I find them, even at the low doses to have amplified side effects like insomnia, nausea, low appetite, increased anxiety.
