Some Alternative Supps Do Work!!

Posted by bulldog2 on December 10, 2009, at 13:37:57

Well some of these supps actually do work. My wife had high c-reactive protein and was high on something sedimentation(don't know exact name). So I read up on these problems and saw use fish oil, vitamin c and coenzyme q10. Well she took the blood tests over a month later and all values had receded to right in the middle of the normal range. Doc was shocked and said it probably healed on its own. Funny thing he kept giving her medrol packs and they didn't work.

Supplements can act like drugs in many instances.

I know that niacin can have measuarable clinical effects on blood cholesterol, for instance.

Yes fish oil definitely crosses the BBB. If it didn't it would not have the beneficial effects it has on the brain.

Drugs and supplements are both powerful. Supplements have the benefit of providing a much broader range of benefits in a single pill than a madmade molecule. Any herb for example has at least 20 or 30 identified active medical chemicals within it. Usually the focus is only on one or two of them, but the fact is there are many and they all do stuff.

Drugs are madmade and the primary motivation to make them was sales profit. They have to go through a lengthy and costly process of the FDA to make it to the sales floor. Somehow, that gives them a glorified appearance as if they are somehow better than a substance that did not go through all trouble. Somehow it is natural to accept that a substance that came out of laboratories with high tech scientists dressed in white suits is more glorious and more worthy than a substance that was picked out of a meadow, mountain, or rain forest. That is a myth.

We just happen to know more about meds because they are heavily researched, supplements are not. That in no way makes meds better than supplements.

On the other side of the world, supplements are heavily researched. There are literally hundreds of scientific studies on a single herb. Some of have been proving their worth through experience for hundreds of years. Some still have not been beat by anything man produced.

My personal approach is to combine the best of both worlds...combine science with experience, combine meds with supplements. Outcomes are enhanced, and it's as simple as that.
