NO depression today, more motivation confidence and energy

Posted by Zonked on August 26, 2011, at 15:37:15

Placebo effect or not, I am thankful for today. I was feeling so well I forgot about my second Nardil dose till now. I hope this continues.

How much Nardil are you on? Kind of wondering what I cam expect. I feel awful today. I'm so tired. I can't concentrate and can barely get out of bed. So sick of this.

I have experience with Nardil. At first, I felt a strong rushing sensation and overall positive feelings, although this gradually became more subtle over time. Some of the initial side effects, such as headaches, go away after a week or two. Some of the side effects like inability to fall asleep or low blood pressure did not go away.

I'm currently on 60mg of Parnate and can say with confidence that MAOI's have been more beneficial than any of the newer generation meds I tried over the years (prozac, cymbalta, wellbutrin). I will note however, I have treatment-resistant depression so an MAOI fits my needs because it is a pretty powerful medication. The drawback is the amount of side effects some people experience with it.

By the way, I'm glad to hear you are feeling well (success stories are always nice). Nardil is a great med and has given many people relief from depression.

-Good cheers

I meant to say that the difference the last two days has been the addition of AndroGel.

I've been on Nardil 90mg for over a month now. I had a brief "blip" of improvement that lasted a week or two, and it faded until I added the testosterone.

Sorry for the confusion. :-)

I'm not having the inability to fall asleep at 30mg. I have an inability to stay awake. I'm also taking 3mgs a Klonopin a day and .5mg of Risperdal. I think I must be overmedicated. This is awful. I'm so tired.

I want the success Zonked is getting. Congrats, Zonked. I'm am very happy you're feeling better.

Oh ok, I go it. I myself have found that Parnate is no longer doing as much for me as it once did. Although it's complicated because I take Adderall and Vyvanse with it as well.

Klonopin was too sedating and depressing for me, and that's a lot (relatively speaking), depending on how long you've been on it and what your tolerance is. I switched to Xanax.

Risperdal... Well, we all have opinions, and mine is mostly anti-AAP. I think antipsychotics are overprescribed in non-psychotic disorders, what are you taking it for?

Hang in there. Nardil never worked for me in doses lower than 60, and it truly appears that this time I had to add testosterone in order for it to kick in again. I will address this more fully in a separate post.

Antipsychotics

I personally agree. Antipsychotics are over prescribed to people suffering from depression. I took Abilify with prozac for a while and it made me feel worse There are better options out there.

Zonked looks like the testosterone was the missing link. Must be true that hormones do help with depression different ones for females. Phillipa

Sorry if my question hijacked your thread.

Anyway, I was in the hospital for severe anxiety and depression. While we were playing with meds, the pdoc prescribed Risperdal to try to help with sleep, ruminating thoughts and panic. I really needed some relief fast. Of course, the Risperdal didn't provide it. Such is my luck.

Right now I think it needs to go.

Hi.

> Antipsychotics are over prescribed to people suffering from depression.

What facts do you have to base your conclusion on?

> I took Abilify with prozac for a while and it made me feel worse

I took Abilify with Nardil, and it made me feel better. So what?

> There are better options out there.

Name one.

Risperidone doesn't help at all with rumination?I recall you being fairly med sensitive. I recently added .25mg at night. I really didn't want to take it, but I admit that it seems to be helping. The thoughts are less intense and captivating for me. Could .5mg be too much? But it sounds like you were in a crisis. Not boosting it for you either way. Just curiuos.

Are you home yet?

You sound good.

Yes, I'm home. I was in crisis and frankly, I am not out of it. I think I'm more hopeless now. I've been to a good hospital and I still feel horrible. I think I'm worse. While something is blocking most of the physical symptoms of anxiety, I'm left with a new one, which is the inability to move. I don't know how to explain it. I walk and get dizzy, limbs feel leaden, feel like I'm being pulled down, and just generally feel strange. Vertigo maybe?

Back on topic, the Risperdal does help with ruminations but I find it has a major effect on my POTS. The pdoc initially had me on 1mg and I could barely stand.

I just don't think I can get better because I can't take anything due to the POTS. I'm no better out of the hospital. I'm not doing well.

Yeah, and the hospital just didnt understand that and how it was making it impossible for me to walk the halls.

I'm sorry you've experienced it too, Phillipa.

Lepus didn't they shine a light in your eyes? As True vertigo shows some sort of shifting of the eyes when light is shown brightly in them. I was given antivert for it and 2mg IM of ativan. Did you have nausea I was lucky didn't. But it knocked me down for a few days. Phillipa

No, they didn't shine a light. It comes on with my panic attacks so I assume they think the meds for panic attacks will take care of it. They are probably right, it is just a very stubborn symptom.
