SAMe + Emsam

Posted by floatingbridge on August 30, 2011, at 16:26:36

Apparently SAM-e is contraindicated with any serotonin elevating agents. How much is this in theory? How much in regular practice. The risk is serotonin syndrome.

Anyone on serotonin elevating meds take SAM-e? If so, at what dose, and for how long ( have you)?

I'm interested in the lowest dose effective for OA.

I currently wear a 9mg Emsam patch.

Thanks.

(it's perfectly fine to say no way fb!)

I'd say no way. Why do you want to take the risk? If you think the EMSAM needs a boost talk to your doctor about adding a safer antidepressant or one of the other boosters such as Abilify.

I'm just not sure what the sense is in going this route when there are safer alternatives.

Oh, you want to use it for arthritis. Sorry. Still, safer alternatives, even Vitamin D.

There are plenty of things you can use for arthritis.

I agree with Lepus. I took SAMe with 10mg Parnate and had to hide in a library and pretend to read newspapers I was so agitated.

Try this if you want arthritis relief.

Or this

They are liable to be more effective for arthritis and less of a problem with Emsam.

The black tea theflavins may aggravate insomnia. Take a half dose with breakfast.

O.K., O.K. you two, thanks. :-)

Sigi, do you take both? I could do away with the separate 5-loxin. I would be getting msm and glucosamine as well....

(I think the 5-loxin is helping a bit.)

Yes, those are two things I take.

A half dose (2 caps) of Arthromax with breakfast, and a Joint Formula any time (AFAIK, I think is OK).

I have kept my OA from getting worse.

And I take 5 loxin.

Thank you :-) (nm) » sigismund

Oh no. It's been documented by MRI, unfortunately. In lower back mostly. Oddly, it was at it's worst on the crazy med trials and peaked on cymbalta. On cymbalta it began to show vin top of fingers and big toes. Typical pattern. That's abated. :-)

Since norco and dex are gone, slowly feeling a bit better. Walking and stretching help.

No swelling. It was in the top (tip) joint. If one googles OA there is actually a pattern that I was fitting into.

It's abated greatly. I mean, during this time I suddenly had raynuad's, carpal tunnel. All have remitted. Very strange.

Darn snri's and me.

FB wait I must be losing my mind to anxiety as don't recall you ever mentioning Renauds? I've wondered about thyroid as Throid for Dummies book says it can go away? So wonder if the synthroid is making things worse. So confused. Love Phillipa
