I'm giving buspar a whirl. I mainly have GAD with some attention issues. I'm also taking Ritalin and mirtazapine.
The hope is to avoid taking S/NRI's. I've been on that bandwagon far too long and I'm feeling too detached.

Yes GOOD LUCK! I tried it for SA but didn't help. Was still coming off other meds tho at the time so not the most reliable of results. I did get start-up anxiety tho so watch out for that. Felt nothing like a yucky S/NRI tho.

I dont understand,buspar and again i know ill be blasted for this but simply has not now or ever shown itself to be close to effective on anxiety.Benzos hands down have constantly been the answer.Only problem with them is monotherapy,if u use them monotherapy they can cause depression and toleraince.However if youre adding them to your meds ones like ativan extremly effective you barly notice your on.
And people worry about safety,do some hard core reading and youlls see these drugs are actualy safe and what they call NEUROPROTECTIVE protective on the brain.

Hi SLS,
I'm thinking the same thing. About 4 hours after taking buspar, I notice things start 'waking up'. Colors are significantly brighter and I start to get more energy. It feels a bit like remeron without the antihistamine effect.
I'm just trying to explore other avenues at the moment. I'm not even 100% sure what my diagnosis is. More anxiety than depression, but perhaps some cycling / attention issues.
I just know that antidepressants are not agreeing with me and I cannot take them at a reasonable dose.

I do remember a more pronounced activating effect rather than the typical SSRI 'yawning' effects. Maybe I would have found some benefit if I wasn't coming off phenelzine at the time. Didn't even make me sleep longer like SS/NRIs always did and I been on em all except fluvoxamine and duloxetine.
Also I have met a few SA sufferers who got better on clonazepam but needed to add an AD after a few months. Even tho they did not have 'clinical' depression to begin with. Still, a small price to pay in my book.
Oh and were/are you taking other meds before you started buspirone? Which ones?90%
