> just read a new book by Michael Murray,N.D.(Boast your Serotonin Levels 5-HTP the natural way to overcome depression, obesity and insomnia)it gave me some hope that I might get off of these SSRI's cause the one i'am taking now (Celexa)does not seem to work,of course the doc's have a lot more to try,i know when i tell the doc. he will pu pu it and give me a new prescription to get filled out for a bunch of money,,if any one out there has tried 5-htp please let me know your results..
I'm sort of skeptical of the "N.D." degree. I'd sooner consult with an M.D. or Pharm.D. who has some experience with naturopathic medicine.
But anyway, I tried 5-HTP - not for depression but for insomnia - and found that it just didn't work. And actually I was taking it long enough (6 weeks or so) that if it was going to help with my depression it should have by then.
It is noteworthy that tryptophan has been considered a worthwhile adjunct to ADs for quite a long time (I think they first started using it in the '60's or '70's). 5-HTP might be equally viable for this.
How much Celexa are you taking? It sounds to me like you either need to go up on the dose or switch ADs.
'Luck dude.
