Has anyone heard of any contraindications to using PPhentermine with Celexa. Phentermine is the "Phen" part of the old phen-fen diet. Appreciate any input. Thanks

> Hi DonaL. I am "Dr. Media", and dieting while on any antidepressant can be a very touchy issue. Let me say , however, that phentermine, which has the trade name Ionamin, is a substance closely related to the amphetamines, and as such has a very significant abuse liability.
Also, do not fear the FenPhen problem, as it was the COMBINATION, not the two components of it, that was causing the very regrettable heart problems the public has been fearing for awhile now.
Phentermine can have an additive effect with an antidepressant medication, including a significant rise in blood pressure and difficulty sleeping, etc. Although it is NOT medically unethical to mix these drugs rememeber to ask Dr. to tell you what side effects to watch for.
