Wendy -- I've been trying 3 grams a day for about 4 months for bipolar disorder. There have been some promising preliminary reports from NIH about using omega-3 fatty acids for depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I haven't noticed much difference in my mood. Of course, I'm on my regular meds, so it's hard to tell if it's the meds working or the fatty acids. (I still have some mood fluctuations, though mostly mild.) Also, you should know that the recommended amount for fatty acids is only 3 grams a day (or 3,000 mg). If you're taking 8 grams (or 8,000 mg), you're taking way more than is recommended. It may be safe, but it hasn't been studied, so you might want to lower your dose. Terry
