I'm sorry to hear about all you've been through. I'm also to hear you were given BuSpar for panic, and that (I'm guessing) were started at too high of dose on Prozac.
I'd take the Xanax and let yourself feel better. If you're going to be taking a drug for panic long-term, you might consider a longer-acting benzodiazepine (Xanax is a shorter-acting benzodiazepine) like Klonopin. Or, you might want to consider an SSRI, started at *low* doses and titrated up to a target dose (which generally will be lower than a dose for depression) *slowly*. (What dose of Prozac did your doc start you at, anyway, 20mg?) It can be easier to come off Klonopin than Xanax. But for the short term, I'd take the Xanax and allow yourself to feel better. You've already been through enough--you don't need panic attacks on top of everything else!
