medications that stop working

Posted by Ruth on April 12, 1999, at 20:11:21

I've struggled with a treatment resistant depression over the past three years. During that time I've tried numerous meds and combinations. A couple of times I've had the experience of being on something which stopped working after a period of time. Most recently I've been on a combination of lamictal and respirdal. Although neither is an anti-depressant the lamictal has anti-depressant effects and the respirdal controlled my anxiety (evidently there is also new research that suggests it may have anti-depressant effect as well.
After 6 months on this combination where I was doing quite well things began to deteriorate for me. It is unclear why. At that point my doc had me stop the parnate I was on and start celexa.
What I'm wondering is whether my experience with meds losing their effectiveness means that I'm lightly to experience that again.
