In reply to excessive salivation, posted by Jason on June 21, 1999, at 0:53:48
> I have had a problem for almost ten yrs with excessive salavation, where my mouth constantly fills up with saliva during the day. This started when I was roughly 15 yrs old. It causes a great deal of stress and distress for me in all areas of my life, particularly socially. What could be causing this symptom? Are there any particular medications I could use to counter this? Lifestyle changes? I should note that I have been taking a low dosage of Luvox for about a yr and half which has helped moderately with this problem, but I dont believe my condition has anything to do with OCD or depression. I just have to swallow all the time.
Wow, you are the very first person I've heard
describe this phenomenon. It has happened to me
about ten times and I don't know why. My p-doc
kind of jsut shrugs his shoulders over it. A
friend of mines dog has epilepsy and he said he
could always tell when Elvis (the dog, hee hee)
was about to have a siezure because he would start
hypersalivating.Based on this, and my mood swing history, I thought
maybe I should see a neurologist about having
temporal lobe epilepsy. I also have smell halluc-
inations from time to time, as well as these
terrible "brain fogs", so after reading about
TLE, I thought maybe this is worth a try.Anyway, the neurologist said to come back in for
more tests during one of my episodes. Of course
this is almost impossible because I it takes
a month to get a flipping appointment and the
symptoms don't last that long...What have you discovered about this? My ex-girlfriend
would seriously *die* laughing as I stood there in
public with gobs of saliva coming out of my
mouth. I mean, it isn't the end of the world,
and not painful, so I can see the humor in it,
but jeez, I really wonder what is going on.
