> I have suffered w/ this problem for years and years and just tried to cope - miserably at best. Being around people makes me very nervous and one of the worst scenerios is having to go w/people for a meal. I'm so uptight I'm not hungry and if I do eat I'm sick in the bathroom afterwards. It really puts a damper on your social life. I'm so tired of feeling uptight around people. I'm hoping this new drug for this problem - Neurontin - is my answer. Anyone else suffer like symptoms. Please share your experiences and where/how you've got help. Thank you for your input. Carmen
I know exactly how you feel. I have long suffered from social phobia. I also have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, post-tramatic stress syndrome and dysthymia-Whew!!! But I have gotten so use to being by myself, that this is what feels "normal" for me. I am in therapy and have been on various medications for my disorders but the one that has worked the best for me for the social phobia is paxil. I have a job (where I basically keep to myself) a husband (who really doesn't understand) and three children, who are the only people I really need. My therapist has said that through re-thinking and re-training, I will someday be "sociable" (HA!)I am 45 years old, so it's going to be pretty hard to teach this old dog new tricks. I am keeping my sense of humor and an open mind. So try to stick it out and maybe someday we'll "do" lunch together!!!!! You may e-mail me at BarB1188@aol.com to chat if you would like. Take care.
