After many years with a diagnosis of major depression I was just diagnosed as Bipolar with mixed states. I hope this isn't a fad diagnosis like Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) was a few years ago. Anyway, for the mixed states,I was put on Neurontin as a mood stabilizer, gradually raising the dose from 900mg to 2000mg per day over the next two weeks. I have found some possibly helpful information on the net that may help you.

Annie, thanks for the response!! Keep me updated on the neurontin and how it works for you. The web sites in your post above are great. I spent a lot of time reading them. The doc I see said there is a new book on bipolar disorder by Johns Hopkins. I saw it in the book store yesterday. It's very comprehensive but easy to understand. however, what you are describing and what I am being told about me (mixed state that is more depression with overlying aggitation) does not seem to be covered well anywhere. And there is not much on use of neurontin even though it is a new book. However I didn't read the whole book--just browsed and scanned. This seem to be a different "mixed state" from what the books and other posters are talking about.
