It seems that after a few years of searching for the "right" medications, my doctor and I have stumbled upon a very effective combination. I was told by my general practitioner a couple of years ago I was suffering from depression, and he prescribed Wellbutrin. It had very little effect, so he prescribed an SSRI, Paxil. Paxil worked very well at first, but "pooped" out in about 4 months. My doctor said this was common, so we tried another SSRI, Effexor XR. Same story, the med. "pooped". My doctor told me I should see a Psych., and I said I would, but didn't make the appointment, and went cold turkey off the Effexor. Bad mistake! I was so dizzy, bad headache, it felt terrible. I finally went to see the Psych. about 6 months later, and she diagnosed me with GAD, plus depression. I also have aggressive tendencies. She thought that the depression was a side-effect of the anxiety, so she prescribed BuSpar, which did absolutely nothing. I told her I was still feeling depressed, so she prescribed Celexa 20mg. I feel GREAT!! My life totally turned around, but I was still battling the anxiety. We tried a couple of other medications (Inderal), but none seemed to work. She was hesitant about benzos because I drive alot in my work and operate machinery. She then prescribed Neurontin 1200mg, and now the world is fantastic. Since reading this column, I've become aware that finding the right combination of medications is hard to accompish and wanted to share my success story (for now)! Hang in there everybody
