Hello Janet: Taking 900mg/lithium a day did not cause me to gain weight. From what I recall reading somewhere, the weight can be caused by drinking sodas, juices, milk etc... due to the increased thirst. What dose of lithium does your doc plan to work up to? In augmentation of antidepressants, a high dose is not necessarily needed. Also, when you start Parnate, you may not need the lithium at all, which would resolve this concern.
