Pamelor is a brand name for nortryptyline, one of the tricyclic antidepressants. It works for a lot of people-- just as many as the SSRIs like Zoloft and Prozac- but supposedly has more side effects than SSRIs: dry mouth, dizziness when you stand up, drowsiness, weight gain. I took it for a year and found the side effects bearable. (It only partly worked on my depression, though, which was NOT bearable. I ended up on Zoloft, which did work.) You should be able to find plenty of info on it on RXQX and other med sites.
