Crawling Out of Skin

Posted by Abby on February 1, 2000, at 2:00:24

I've seen the phrase "feel as though crawling out of skin" alot in the DSM for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
I've had states of sort of anxious, dysphoria and internal agitation where the only thing I could do was to go to sleep---if I can fall asleep, that is. This scares me, because I think that my mother did the same thing.

I often find that I don't describe things the way other people do. I majored in Classics and love 18th and 19th century literature. One way I get into trouble is by using words in ways which are perfectly correct, but slightly archaic and which others don't understand.

Has anyone experienced this "crawling out from under the skin" Experiences of other standard diagnostic criteria more fully described would be much appreciated. I'm seeing the psychiatrist on Wednesday. Feedback before then would be really appreciated.

Thanks
