I have had these problems in the past, mostly anorexia and some binge eating periods (short ones and long ones). I was hospitalized once for the anorexia.
Once I recognized and treated the underlying disorders (mine was both manic-depression and ADHD), eating was no longer a problem. Finding the right medications for these disorders was a bit more difficult.
Weight is something simple to concentrate on when you are manic depressive. It feels accomplishable.
The anorexia was a result of the ADHD, and not having the organizational skills to eat well and regulary. And then, I didn't have impulse control skills when my body wanted to binge eat.
Binging and malnutrition do crazy things to your brain, and further contributes to mood problems.
Mandy, why don't you tell your doctor, or try to join a self-help group. This type of cycle is best to break as soon as possible.
I met some very lovely people in these groups.
