My psychdoc prescribed meds on the first visit. Make sure you find out how you have been diagnosed. That helps you with your own research into the condition and meds. As to insurance - that depends on your situation, i.e., benefits through work, HMO, disability, etc. Just ask the psychdoc's office before you go in.
