Do All ADs cause Short Term Memory Problems?

Posted by JohnT on March 14, 2000, at 10:14:57

I have tried a lot of Anti-Depressants over the years, but have not
been able to stay on any for long. The one symptom that
always forces me to stop is short term memory problems.
The first ones I tried were Tricyclics. I lost a $300 tool kit and
found the scatter brain affects more depressing than
whatever. I tried Prozac briefly and experienced an inner
tension that made thinking impossible. Wellbutrin was a
little better, except I never needed sleep. Eventually
short term memory problems raised their heads again.
Even St John's Wort made me almost disfunctional. I began to
conclude that I had some other problem than depression.
Recently I tried Valerian root which caused me to actually
experience responses of joy. I realized that there was a ]
dimension to life that I had never really experiences in
50 years. Still, I found that it affected
my short term memory adversely.

I have thought for a long time that the ideal substance
for me would probably not make it to market because it
would cause hallucinations in too many patients. Not me,
I would just visualize normally and have a normal dream
life.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is there a biochemical
explanation? Anything that is significantly different
in how it works from the SSRI's?
