In reply to ANFRANIL AND SEX IN WOMEN, posted by DiDi on March 14, 2000, at 7:27:28
Anafranil woke my body up in ways I had never imagined before!
I got hypomanic on it quickly, which made me even more hypersexual. I also had problems with impulse control on it (OCD, binge eating).
In short, I tried to seduce my boss, my platonic friend and almost any man I met who I liked (which was, in the state I was in, almost all of them!).
Luckily, my psychiatrist (tried to seduce him) and my boyfriend (couldn't keep up) also noticed quite quickly. I started more lithium, stopped the Anafranil (that was a fight)...and then I started Desipramine. Another trycyclic.
And my sex life...IT WAS FANTASTIC AGAIN! and as I was no longer manic, I managed to keep my sexuality to myself and my boyfriend. I could have great sex all afternoon, and I was only taking 50mg. My boyfriend would always tease me and pretend to steal my Desipramine.
go figure!
the funny thing is (maybe pathetic thing is), prior to taking Anafranil, I had only 2 orgasmism in my life. Since stopping the Desipramine, I haven't had another orgasism. I am also a good, hypocritical, non-practising, guilt-ridden Catholic...who refuses to try to please herself. I have had so many problems with my sexuality...as a result of my mental health problems.
I'm getting off topic...and on to another one that only seems to frustrate me.
Of course, I'm planning to go back to the tricyclics when I get my bipolar back in, hopefully, complete control.
what about you? Janice
