My first thought in the morning is about going back to sleep -- all day! Lowering the dose leaves me feeling slow in the evening (MY time). And recently I've just been feeling dependent on this stuff.

I realized this when I came down with the WIERDEST vertigo from an ear infection and, slightly panicked, called my pdoc and told him (eventually) that I absolutely wasn't depressed but that something truely strange was going on (a trip to the clinic and some antihistimines cleared up the problem). That's great, no more severe depression -- but of course I want more. I want rid of the low level depression or dysthymia that has characterized my outlook since I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that the dysthymia and ADD are wrapped up like the old chicken and the egg.

I can empathize w/how you feel re: the dexidrine. However, even though it's not ideal, at least it sounds like it works...? You can function @ work, get things done, etc.Nothing wrong w/looking for better, but at least you have a "fall-back" option that "works".
As for alternatives, Andrew's comments re: dopamine depletion (dysthymia-like symptoms) seem applicable...check out his earlier post:

On the down-side, I think you have to get some (all?) of the meds from overseas... Good luck!
