I was diagnosed ADD a few years back, but was treated for my so called "bipolar". The treatment for the bi polar was much worse than when they finally treated my ADD directly. The two can mimic each other almost identically. I found that I was not bipolar, just ADD with all the trimmings. (anxiety, depression, impulsiveness, short temper... ) When my ADD was treated directly there was no need for anyother meds and it was much quicker to treat it than to try the AD's that take forever to work (and usually don't work for ADD). My suggestion would be to try the ADD meds first, because you will know sooner (within hours or a day or two). If they dont work you will know quickly then you can go to the bipolar meds if not ADD. Why prolong it if you don't have to?!
