I started taking Paxil three weeks ago. I'm taking 20 mg a day. I felt more relaxed within a few days. I felt like I was on vacation with a great reduction in stress. However, I am so relaxed I feel like sleeping all day long. I had heard that drowsiness is not that common with Paxil; therefore, I am a little surprised. Based on the literature I have read, Paxil is less sedating than other SSRIs, which suggests that a switch in SSRIs is not the answer. As a result, I would like to know any information related to the following questions:
1) What are the chances that my drowsiness will dissipate over time?
2) Are there any meds that are commonly added to a SSRI to compensate for drowsiness?
3) Is there a certain group or type of patient which is more susceptible to drowsiness while on SSRIs?
4) Am I correct in assuming that switching to another SSRI would likely cause more drowsiness?
