> I just started with a new psychiatrist and she recommended I go back on estrogen patch with prometrium at night. She states estrogen will work to help depression and prometrium helps sleep. I just tapered off Effexor. Effexor was awful, tremors, anxiety, etc, etc. I am going back to prozac and just wondered if anyone else had heard about the benefits of estrogen and prometrium

Though I have no experience or knowledge of hormone treatment, I do know that my physician uses them sometimes when multiple drug classes have failed. He doesn't use them often, but he does sometimes find success in otherwise difficult cases by using estrogen supplementation in women or testosterone in men. This usually doesn't happen though unless it is warranted by blood test results or if there have been a lot of drug failures. Not the most common approach, but certainly successful in select patients.
