Hi,
The use of buprenorphine, brand name Buprenex, has been a hot topic on the Chronic Pain/Opiate Therapy Boards and the Addiction and Recovery/ Opiate Addiction Boards on AOL for the past year. Bup is highly touted answer to opiate withdrawal syndrome/addiction, esp'ly by a doc named Stu Wasser. He has a message board in the (keyword)A&R (Ask the Expert) forum on AOL. There are several posters who have used this injectible drug for chronic pain and depression relief. Just go to these boards and ask for testimonials/links to Bup articles. There are many to be found/read.
I believe Bup is only FDA approved for relief of moderate pain at this time, not for depression. But, testimonials do claim it has anti-depressant qualities. It is, however, an opiate, and is, therefore, addictive.
One does experience some physical withdrawal when stopping the drug.
Many CP patients also have used Ultram. It is a non-scheduled drug used for pain that many people get a 'lift' from. It, however, has been found to be addictive in some patients, esp'ly those who have had problems w/past opiate addictions.
Rumor is that it will one day, in the not too distant furure, become a scheduled drug.
If you need more help finding any of these boards/forums, just e-mail me.
