Effexor XR Social Anxiety

I've been reading through all the messages on this site and see that most people seem to be taking Effexor XR for depression. Has anyone had it prescribed for social anxiety like I have? I was taking Buspar for 6 weeks, no effect except bad side effects. And thanks to all who write here for the information, really makes a difference to see experiences vs. what Dr. says or what pamphlet says.
