I find one to two hours before bed is just right. That way I feel some of the carryover sedation when I wake, but it fades with the first coffee. If I take Remeron just before bed, it carries over into the next day big time. So I would suggest taking it in the window ranging from dinnertime to an hour or two before bed, but not as late as bedtime. The earlier in the evening you can take it, the less carryover-if any--into the next day. It does get better! :-)
