Catful - The problem with abrupt withdrawl is the short half life. Effexor leaves the body too quickly. Your body's serotonin receptors (and at higher doses, norepinephrine receptors) do not have time to adjust to life without the Effexor. This results in the withdrawl effects you have described.

Effexor should be weaned slowly over a 4 to 8 week period, depending on how long you took it for. This will minimize the withdrawl effects.
