> I have been taking Remeron for about 4 weeks and have gained 12 pounds. I know this is a "normal" side effect. I also work out a lot and am wondering whether this is preventing more weight gain. My question is whether exercise and diet can counter the side effect, or is it a "done deal" no matter how hard you work out?
Eabct, Hi!
I started on Remeron about 18 months ago. I too gained a good deal of weight in the first few weeks. As I have had anorexia on and off for about fifteen years, this scared me badly. I put myself on a strict (though not too drastic) diet & exercise regime. The good news is, diet and execise will result in weight loss. I am now a good thirty pounds lighter than when I started on Remeron and I am still eating approx.1000 calories a day/power-walking for only 4K a day. The bad news is, it takes approximately three times as long to shift the weight compared to the same regime undertaken off Remeron. My advice is to persevere. It's certainly not a "done deal"!
Good luck and take care
Caroline
