In reply to hydrocodone or tramadol for depression, posted by shellie on June 4, 2000, at 23:41:59
Shellie,
I personally have never heard of Vicodin being prescribed for depression although I'm sure it has been somewhere, nothing surprises me anymore.
I had major back surgery about a year and a half ago and Vicodin was one of the many pain killers I had prescribed for me. After extended use, I became heavily addicted to the PKs and ended up going thru detox to kick them. I was in even worse shape afterwards. My dominate thought was wanting to die, the depression controled my every thought. It took me nearly 2 months to recover to the point I am now, and I still have a ways to go.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, there's a REAL fine line between casual use of PKs and falling into addiction. I realize that you've used then for 2 years and have had no problem, but the problem can happen in a heartbeat. Don't mistake the "high" you get from them as an absence of depression. That high can turn on you very quickly.
Please forgive me if this sounds like a sermon, I don't mean it that way. Having been down that road with PKs, I just wanted to share my experience with you. I wish you success in finding the right med.
