Andre - Serotonin and melatonin are closely linked and structurally similar. These two chemicals are a link between the stress and endocrine systems of the body.Melatonin plays a physiologic role in the regulation of sleep and is secreted into plasma in a circadian rhythym (different levels in the day and night - higher at night). Association of insomnia with low or distorted melatonin rhythyms has been demonstrated in a number of studies. You may be experiencing distorted melatonin levels because of increased serotonin levels, but this is only a guess.
I doubt that taking melatonin will help. I would think that your body will figure out this imbalance on it's own, over time. You may just have to ride it out for a while.
Hope this helps - Cam
