In reply to Xanax and Pre-Employment Drug Screening, posted by Theodore on June 10, 2000, at 16:23:53
> I am facing a pre-employment drug screening in the next week. I am also taking Xanax (generic equivalent), does anyone have any experience with patients that have faced the same situation? With a letter from the physician that it is medically necessary, will that negate the positive for benzodiazipines? Will it help or hinder?

James here....Since you will test postive for benzos (up to a full month after last dose) you will have to produce documentation or they will assume illicet
use of benzos. Some labs just report test results and you give documentation to the employer, or the lab takes care of this. Have your doc's note
with you when tested and mention it and find out what is the procedure. Lots of people take xanax
so don't worry. You don't have to say why you take it, all the doc's note has to say is "x is taking xanax, perscribed by me"james
