All,
My pdoc had me on Ritalin SR. I found that I only got about 4-5 hours out of it. It was, however, ALOT smoother acting than the regular ritalin. Now he has given me another extended release methylphenidate. It is called Metadate and it is manufactured by Medeva Pharmaceuticals in the UK. It seems to last about the same amount of time as the Ritalin SR in the morning, but when I take it in the afternoon, it is lasting 7-8 hours (give or take). I have noticed that it does give me alittle more headache and tight facial muscles when it wears off, but that goes away. Also, the effectiveness is better when I have had something to eat although it does take the edge off my appetite.
If I don't eat for some time, I feel almost like its wearing off, and then I eat, and I'm OK again for awhile.Metadate and another methalphenidate extended release soon to be approved - Concerta - are supposed to help you get through the whole day on one dose.
Has anybody tried Metadate yet? If you are currently using Ritalin SR, you might ask your pdoc about it.
Also, a question for any of you using Ritalin: Do you ever have caffiene while you are on the Ritalin? How did you find the caffiene (as in coffee or sodas) affected the Ritalin's effectiveness?
