I haven't stopped all meds recently, but did not use meds for many years while depressed. I've only used meds seriously for a few years. If going off meds would mean life as it was -- constantly suicidal, down in that deep, dark, heavy, black, burdensome, paralyzing pit of depression -- well, I'd rather stay on the meds.
Years ago, I did have one short stint on Prozac (8-12 months) and stopped that due to its lack of effect, and went several more years before trying meds again (I had always heard such terrible things about meds). During that time off Prozac, was depressed as usual for those years.
It is always curious (and scary) to me when people go off their meds, maybe (I think to myself) they didn't have the 30 years of feeling suicidal etc. before starting meds. I understand wanting to know "it can be done" or "I can live without them" and I guess that information must provide a sense of security? Like, "I am not an addict?"
Good luck to you and I hope you will have a successful experience!
